Alcohol at Your Reception

Although we offer a cash bar option for weddings, it is not the most appropriate choice. When guests are invited to your home, do you have a cash bar out on your deck? Probably not. Many guests may not carry cash or credit cards with them, which creates an awkward situation for both your guests and the bartenders.

In lieu of a cash bar for your wedding, I recommend offering a “light bar” with beer, wine and champagne. This option is much easier on the budget. Approximately 90% of weddings held at Olde Towne are beer and wine only. Full liquor bars are very rare, most likely due cost. For daytime and morning weddings, you can serve champagne punch or Mimosa’s!

We do our best to keep a close eye on alcohol consumption during events. We do not allow “shots” to be served to avoid unruly behavior as the evening progresses. I received a phone call from my Event Manager one evening at 11:30 pm, wanting to know how to get two naked guests out of the swimming pool. It just so happened to be a bridesmaid and groomsman. She asked nicely and they got out and dressed before the police arrived.

Weddings are designed to be great fun. However, it is important to be cognizant of bar options and timelines. Olde Towne will not allow a five (5) hour bar reception. Typically the bar closes approximately 30-45 minutes before departure. We recommend taxi services and provide phone numbers in the entrance area. We will be more than happy to call on behalf of any guest.

Our facility is fully licensed with liability insurance and all bartenders hold an individual alcohol server license.
